"When I Dream !"
Last Update - 06/05/19

When we dream,   we dream of a world where humans no longer heartlessly destroy the beauty that Nature creates.
Please, Help us make our dream a reality.

Found an orphaned baby Raccoon??
Then immediately contact the nearest Rehabilitator, Vet, or Dept. of Natural Resources for help.... Do Not Delay.... The longer you wait, the less chance the baby has of surviving... If you've never successfully raised Raccoons before, DON'T try to care for babies, without help.

Gosh, This is a really BIG pillow ! - Once again, a mother raccoon attempts to adapt where man has moved in and destroyed the original litter den trees.   These babies were evicted from the roof of a house.  In the process of being evicted, the frightened mother jumped from a second story roof. She was seriously injured when she hit the edge of a deck.  Unfortunately, her fate remains unknown, but without help, and seriously injured, we suspect she has perished.

We didn't do it, honest! - Three weeks later and looking like floppy eared puppy dogs, these two, and their two brothers, are growing like weeds.  Though we still don't know the fate of their mother, these kits will surely make it and be released back into the wild and live free the way they were meant to.

Hey, how bout give me a taste! - When it's time to eat, we don't care if you're one of us or not. Just share the bottle...

I can handle this, thank you! - The mother raccoon can do a far better job of raising the babies than we can, so we definitely want to make sure she gets the chance.  Pictured here with our 5 day old Grand Baby, is one of last years orphans.  She returned home to have her kits and is doing a fine job of raising them...  Dixie and I are proud Grand Parents and feel fortunate to be able to witness this miracle of nature.  It warms our hearts to know we were able to help make it possible.  This is what makes wildlife rehabilitation so rewarding.

Fill'er up and check under the hood. - Sometimes our kits get a little lazy at feeding time.  Little Cramer, one of fifteen so far this season, demonstrates what we call the "HaHa's".  Rather than suck, they lay back and open their mouths for us to squirt in the formula.  This makes feeding time go a little slower, but you gotta admit, it's kinda cute.

T.J. the Dream Weaver! - Becky has corresponded with us for over two years while nurturing a growing love for the beauty of raccoons in the wild that she feeds.  This ever increasing love fueled a dream to actually hold and touch a raccoon.  Well, thanks to T.J., on Memorial Day Weekend, her dream was realized when she, and her husband Mark, came to visit our nursery.  Now, there's a smile that's priceless and will last for months to come.

I'm trying to go, honest! - Can a raccoon be potty trained?   Well some say yes, but this little fellow is more interested in playing in it, than using it.

It still looks a little rough to me! - We're raising the roof in Emerald City's play pen.  To gain much needed head room and increase the play area, I've started a project to make the play pen area taller and add a roof.

OK, who's got the Rubber Ducky? - Yes, the party starts now. Especially since the new renovation includes an indoor pool.  Of course, no pool party would be complete without a rubber ducky, so this pool comes stocked with a bright yellow one.

Raccoon Release 2001

Hey everybody, wait for us !! - Once the doors are opened on this group, they don't wait around for an invitation to explore.  This first release of 14 healthy raccoons went off without a hitch.

Last one up is a rotten egg!! - With T.J. in the lead, they hit the ground running to explore the new world they will live in.  No humans to cause them discomfort or threaten their lives.

Catch me if you can! - Lots of trees and vines here to climb.  No cars to bring a sudden end to a peaceful life.  It's their time to LIVE FREE.

What'd you bring us ?? - After a week in the wild, only three were close enough for us to see.  The rest were still sleeping or out of ear shot and didn't bother to see what we were up to.  We always come back a time or two to visit after a release to be sure everyone is doing OK.  We always have a carrier just in case someone needs to come back for a while.

Hey, this is a lot easier than diggin for food. - They still like the treats and enjoy the easy food.   After a short visit and munching for a bit, these fellows wondered back into the brush to continue where they left off.  They're all doing fine and there won't be any need to use the carrier this week...  Our minds at ease, we loaded back up and headed home till the next time.
